Invoice Automation Takes Off at ExpressJet Holdings, Inc.

Expanding Regional Carrier Publishes PNet ePayables Success Story

Red Bank, NJ

January 7, 2008 – ExpressJet Holdings, Inc. (formerly Continental Express Subsidiary) recently participated in a PurchasingNet, Inc. (www.PurchasingNet.com) Success Story on their PNet ePayables Software implementation. ExpressJet described how the Web-based PNet ePayables application allowed them to support rapid growth, streamline their invoice processing, on-board key suppliers, and migrate off of Continental’s system.

Before 2006, ExpressJet Holdings, Inc.’s Accounts Payable operations were a combination of manual and semi-automated processes. Although ExpressJet used Lawson’s Financial Software for some categories of spend, the Controller found that the system was not the right fit for certain types of expenses — namely services, aircraft maintenance, facilities, and operating costs. They needed to streamline the invoice approval process in these categories and find a solution that would make it easier to “on-board” their key suppliers.

As ExpressJet had some experience with Invoice Automation using Continental’s “home-grown” system, Web A/P, they knew they needed a scaleable, best-of-breed application that offered an intuitive Supplier Invoice Portal.

By selecting and implementing PNet ePayables Software, ExpressJet has been able to:

  • Manage $1.7 billion in revenues with only four (4) full-time Accounts Payable employees.
  • Use PNet’s Proven Path Deployment MethodologyTM to go-live with Phase I of their implementation in under 12 weeks -- well before their migration deadline.
  • On-board approximately 240 suppliers -- up from 20 during Phase I in Q3 2006.
  • Achieve rapid supplier adoption. ExpressJet’s Controller, Phung Ngo-Burns, reported their suppliers found the PNet ePayables on-boarding process “simple and straightforward.”

“PNet is an important part of the efficiency and increased productivity within ExpressJet,” stated John Case, IT Business Partner, ExpressJet Airlines. These process improvements have allowed for the business to expand without any significant increases in A/P headcount. “The company has revenues of $1.7 billion — with only four FTE A/P employees. The ratio of revenue to AP overhead is the most favorable we’ve seen,” noted Tim McEneny, President & CEO PurchasingNet, Inc.
